Charleston police continued their search late Wednesday for a man who robbed a Kanawha City bank earlier in the day.

The robbery was reported at the United Bank branch at 4901 MacCorkle Ave. S.E. around 9:30 a.m.

The man showed a handgun to a bank teller and got away with an undisclosed amount of cash, Lt. Steve Cooper, chief of detectives for the Charleston Police Department, said at an afternoon news conference.

The suspect was wearing an orange wig, all-white West Virginia baseball hat and was dressed entirely in camouflage.

No one was injured, and there weren't any customers in the bank at the time of the robbery, Cooper said.

Charleston police released a picture of the man, as well as a video of the getaway vehicle. Officials believe the vehicle is a late-model Chevrolet Equinox in a "light color," Cooper said.

The Charleston Police Department encourages anyone who believes they might recognize the person or getaway vehicle to call the department at 304-348-6480.

Earlier Wednesday, Cooper said police were reviewing surveillance footage from the bank and nearby businesses. "We are searching streets and alleys for possible evidence that may have been left behind," he said. "We have found some."

Nearby schools were place on lockdown for a brief time after the robbery.
