State Police arrested the Paden City police chief on a domestic battery charge early Monday, according to another Paden City officer.
Chief Joseph Richardson allegedly battered his wife, according to Paden City Sgt. Timothy Shreve.
Shreve, who is second in command, said Richardson may face other charges but he is still working to find that out.
Mayor John Hopkins said Richardson is suspended, although he has not yet notified the chief because he has not been able to reach him.
"I'm still trying to gather information about what happened," Hopkins said.
Hopkins has called a special council meeting for Thursday.
Richardson became police chief in July, according to the Wetzel Chronicle.
A State Police employee said no troopers were available for comment.
A former Paden City police chief, Michael Billiter, was charged with domestic battery in September of 2011.
