A Charleston man will spend a year and nine months in federal prison after admitting to possessing guns as a felon.
Ronald Sayles, 39, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Joseph Goodwin Thursday after previously pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Carol Casto's office.
Sayles admitted that he had two handguns, a Taurus .32 caliber pistol and a Ruger 9mm pistol at his home in December 2014, the release states. Charleston police found the weapons while executing a search warrant at the home on Dec. 7, 2014. Sayles was prohibited from possessing a gun because of a felony drug conviction in Kanawha Circuit Court in 2002, according to the release.
Charleston police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives conducted the investigation while Assistant U.S. Attorney John Frail handled the prosecution.
