A man led St. Albans police on a pursuit, then crashed into a semi truck Tuesday morning, according to police.
The man, who identified himself as 23-year-old David Anthony Lovejoy, told police he fled because he doesn't have a driver's license, according to St. Albans Police Capt. James Agee. Police said they attempted a traffic stop because the license plate was not registered to the vehicle.
The pursuit started in the area of 2nd Street and lasted for about five minutes, until Lovejoy crashed into the trailer of a stopped semi, Agee said. The trailer of the truck moved, and some of the milk the truck was carrying spilled, but the truck was not seriously damaged.
Lovejoy had a laceration on the side of his head and other injuries, but was treated by paramedics on site, Agee said. The hood was also knocked off his car.
The crash ended at the intersection of U.S. 60 and U.S. 35, according to a Kanawha County Metro 911 dispatcher. The dispatcher said paramedics were called to the St. Albans police station.
Agee said Lovejoy would be charged with fleeing in a vehicle. He may face more charges.
The incident was reported shortly before 10 a.m.
