A burglar pointed a gun at a caregiver, knocked the woman down and stole her vehicle in Charleston Monday night, according to police.

A 53-year-old caregiver for an elderly person stepped outside of 102 McGovran Road at about 9 p.m. to find a burglar also exiting the apartment from a different door, according to Lt. Steve Cooper, Charleston police chief of detectives. McGovran Road is a short distance from Corridor G.

The burglar, who was wearing a ski mask, pointed a pistol at the woman, knocked her down, and demanded the keys to her blue Ford Fusion, Cooper said. The man then fled in the vehicle.

The woman's lower back was injured, according to Cooper.

He said the apartments in the area didn't have surveillance cameras.

Charleston police continue to investigate.
