A Dunbar man was arrested on Christmas Eve after he allegedly sexually assaulted, beat and held a woman against her will for 12 hours in the home they share.
Jobard Shaw, 43, faces a felony charge for second degree sexual assault on a woman police identified as his girlfriend and two misdemeanor charges of domestic battery and unlawful restraint on her, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.
Shaw and the woman got into a verbal argument about "her lying about her whereabouts" on Friday, the complaint says. After the argument began, Shaw became violent and allegedly forcibly restrained the woman from leaving the apartment, according to the complaint.
During the 12 hours the woman was held, Shaw allegedly struck her multiple times all over her body with his fists, police said. Initially, the woman told police that Shaw tried to hit her in the face while she was in the bathroom.
Shaw allegedly grabbed the woman's hair and ripped a portion of it out after she first tried to leave the apartment not long the argument began, the complaint reads. Police said they found a portion of hair lying in the bedroom.
"As he held her against her will inside the bedroom, she was forced to perform oral sex on him," Dunbar Sgt. Adam Mason wrote in the criminal complaint.
The woman told Mason that she complied with the sex act out of fear that he would continue to hurt her, the complaint reads.
Shaw allegedly held the woman there until Dunbar police arrived. Police said they found small amounts of blood on her upper lip, two large knots on her head and the woman said her entire body hurt from the alleged beating, the complaint reads.
Shaw is being held at the South Central Regional Jail on a $40,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 3, a magistrate court clerk said.
