The Institute man who was shot in the chest early Tuesday remains hospitalized but his condition is improving, police say.
The shooting was reported at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday at 117 Washington Ave. Cory Ellis, 23, was shot in the chest when he answered a knock at his front door, according to Detective Sean Snuffer of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office.
Snuffer said Wednesday that Ellis still is using a tube to breathe and unable to speak to police, but that his condition is improving. The doctor "seems to think he will be OK," Snuffer said.
Witnesses told police that a man knocked on the front door, and shot Ellis when he answered. The suspect then fled.
Police have not arrested anyone.
