Four bomb threats were reported at schools in the region on Tuesday.

Charleston Police responded to bomb threats at Piedmont and Ruffner elementary schools. Sgt. J.A. Hunt described the threats as "automated calls."

After an investigation turned up no evidence of a bomb, classes resumed "as usual," Hunt said.

Calls to Kanawha County School security Chief Keith Vititoe for more information have not been returned.

Students at Valley High School and Valley Elementary School in Fayette County were evacuated after a bomb threat was found written in a stall in the boy's bathroom at the high school Tuesday morning, said a school official.

Serena Starcher, the associate superintendent, said she was notified between 11:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. and the schools were immediately evacuated to designated "safe places."

After the sheriff's department told school officials it would take four to six hours to sweep the school, officials decided to send the students home, Starcher said. The high school students left at 1:30 p.m. and the elementary school students were scheduled to leave at about 2:10 p.m.

Starcher said the schools try to keep the location of the "safe places" private.

As of mid-afternoon, no bombs had been found and police had not yet determined the identity of the student or students who wrote the threat.
