Authorities arrested a 29-year-old Hurricane man on Thursday after he allegedly sent another man to the hospital last year.
On Aug. 31, 2016, Zachary Edens, who lived in Charleston at the time, punched a man's face in the 1800 block of Sugar Creek Drive, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court. An accomplice, later identified as Cameron Carpenter, then used an unknown weapon to hit the man in his spine and head, according to the complaint.
The man tried to escape but was reportedly forced to endure the attack until a car drove down the road, causing Edens and Carpenter to run. His injuries required 14 staples in the head and a surgery for his detached retina.
Edens lived in Charleston when the attack unfolded, according to the complaint. On the warrant issued in January for his arrest, Edens' address is listed as the 1000 block of Teays Valley Lane in Hurricane.
According to Kanawha Circuit Court records, Edans has pleaded guilty to charges of grand larceny, burglary, receiving stolen property and unlawful taking of a vehicle between 2009 and 2011.
He remained at South Central Regional Jail without bond Friday afternoon.
