A Kanawha County man admitted in federal court Monday that he stole a box of checks and other mail from the Elkview area.
Jason Lee Spradling, 34, of Pinch, faces up to five years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine when he is sentenced on July 5 by U.S. District Judge John T. Copenhaver Jr., according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Carol Casto's office.
Spradling admitted that he stole the box of checks from a mailbox and tried to cash one of them. Authorities found him in possession of hundreds of pieces of stolen mail in July 2015, according to the release.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office conducted the investigation.
