The Charleston Police Department is accepting applications for the department's Citizens' Police Academy. The academy, which begins on Sept. 5, consists of an 11-week law enforcement program open to anyone interested 18 years of age and older.
Participants will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Charleston Police Department Training Center. Each week, a different law enforcement topic will be presented with classroom and hands-on instruction by police officers. A police ride-along is also part of the class.
The academy is offered free of charge to residents and business owners in Charleston and surrounding areas. Seating is limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
Applications are available at the Charleston Police Department (Public Services Division) or online at charlestonwvpolice.org and should be returned by Aug. 18. Call 304-348-6470 with questions.
