A Colorado man on Monday was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in jail for leaving the Charleston Work Release Center in March 2016.

Kanawha Circuit Judge James Stucky sentenced Allen Carroll Reeves, 27, to serve the jail time after the sentences he already was serving for previous convictions, Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney Charles Miller said in a news release.

Reeves left the Charleston Work Release Center in March 2016 at the time he was scheduled to work, and he never returned. He later was found in Colorado and extradited back to West Virginia.

At the time of his escape, the most recent conviction against Reeves was for burglary in 2014, according to the Kanawha County prosecutor's office. He also was convicted of grand larceny in 2013, according to the office's records. It was unclear whether either of those convictions were the cause for his working at the Work Release Center.
