CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals has upheld the conviction of a man sentenced in a sexual abuse case.
The Herald-Dispatch reports the court upheld the conviction of 35-year-old Michael Austin Sorrell, determining it found no sentencing error or illegality in his conviction in 2012.
Sorrell appealed his original conviction on Feb. 14, 2014, about two years after accepting an Alford plea in Jan. 10, 2012 to three counts of attempting to commit a felony. He was sentenced to nine years behind bars.
The conviction stems from a sexual abuse case involving two victims under the age of 10 between 2006 and 2010.
The West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals also argued Sorrell waited too long to file the appeal.
