A Belle homeowner who shot and killed a man who he said broke into his home early Saturday morning knew the intruder, police say.
The burglary was not a random incident, a release from the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office said. The burglary suspect has been identified as Justin William Jones, 33, of Spring Fork Drive, near Charleston. The sheriff's office is withholding the name of the homeowner.
The incident happened around 4:25 a.m. Saturday in the 2000 block of East Dupont Avenue, near Witcher Creek and Belle. Deputies say the homeowner called 911 to say he had shot a burglar. Corporal J. Lester of the sheriff's office arrived at the scene to find the homeowner waiting on police.
One man was found shot in the bedroom of the home, according to the sheriff's office. The Kanawha County Ambulance Authority responded, but the man was declared dead at the scene, according to police.
Investigators are trying to find out more about the burglary suspect and what led him to break into the home, the release says.
