A nurse at a Charleston hospital was accused Tuesday of falsifying a patient's documents in order to get prescription pills for herself.
While working as a registered nurse at Charleston Area Medical Center Women and Children's Hospital, Elissa Smith, 62, of Pikeville, Kentucky, incorrectly wrote that a patient, who had just given birth, had been administered several doses of OxyContin and Percocet over a period of days, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.
When interviewed by a Charleston Police detective, Ellis admitted to falsifying the records, according to the complaint.
She is charged with intentionally acquiring possession of a controlled substance by misrepresentation, fraud, forgery, deception or subterfuge, a felony. If convicted, she faces one to four years in prison.
