A Charleston man who allegedly provided a woman with the heroin that killed her is expected to stand trial on a murder charge next year, a judge said Thursday.

Kanawha Circuit Judge Jennifer Bailey set Steven Craig Coleman's trial for Feb. 22. Coleman, 27, is accused of providing heroin to Melody Ann Oxley.

Coleman pleaded not guilty during his arraignment Thursday.

Oxley died Feb. 14 from a heroin overdose at the Seventh Avenue house Coleman shared with his father, Steve Slater, according to the state Medical Examiner's Office and Charleston police.

Coleman allegedly gave Slater and Oxley heroin after they begged him for it, according to police.

Coleman was charged with murder several months after Oxley's death, after the state medical examiner provided a cause of death.

He is being held in South Central Regional Jail. On Thursday, Bailey again denied the request of Coleman's attorney, Rico Moore, to set bond for his client.
