A St. Albans man died from injuries sustained when he was struck by a vehicle on Corridor G early Thursday morning.

Sgt. Randy Sampson, traffic division commander for the Charleston police, said Carl Epling, 42, was walking on the northbound side of U.S. 119 near Smith Motor Company about 12:30 a.m. when he was hit. The driver who struck the man fled the scene without stopping, Sampson said in a news release.

The man was taken to Charleston Area Medical Center's General Hospital, but died of his injuries shortly after being transported from the scene.

Sampson said a passing motorist saw a vehicle with its lights off exit U.S. 119 at Davis Creek Road around the time of the incident.

Police are still gathering details about the incident, and ask that anyone with information regarding the hit-and-run call the department's Traffic Division at 304-348-6470.
