CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - As many West Virginia residents make New Year's resolutions to shed extra pounds, Attorney General Patrick Morrisey warns them to be aware of a weight loss scam.

Morrisey says the scammers charge additional money after the purchase of a weight loss product's trial offer. It could involve up to $87.95 being charged weeks after the consumer's initial purchase of a $4.95 trial offer.

The call numbers appear to have originated in India from 844-824-4457 and 877-732-0566.

Morrisey says consumers should be extremely skeptical when evaluating weight loss products. He also advises people to keep a close eye on bank and credit card accounts for unauthorized charges.
