FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. (AP) - Fire officials have said that a fatal house fire in Fayette County over the weekend appeared to have been caused by a wood-burning stove in the home's basement.
Captain Jim Sizemore tells WVNS-TV that firefighters used a chain saw, sledge hammers, and axes early Saturday morning, but they all proved unsuccessful in trying to rescue two people from the Fayetteville house.
Sizemore says firefighters were eventually driven back by the intense heat and flames.
He says the fire appears to have been accidental, with no foul play involved.
Officials have not released the identities of the two victims, pending an autopsy.
