PETA is offering up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who shot more than 20 pellets at a cat in Pinch, according to a news release from spokesman David Perle.
A Pinch resident found the 1-year-old cat with more than 20 buckshot pellets lodged in his body and two broken legs on his porch on May 4, according to the release.
The cat underwent surgery and is in recovery, the release says.
"It takes a dangerous lack of empathy to shoot a cat more than 20 times, break his legs, and then leave him to suffer in excruciating pain," PETA Senior Director Colleen O'Brien said in a statement. "PETA is urging anyone with information about this case to come forward immediately before anyone else gets hurt."
Anyone with information can call the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office at 304-357-0169.
