A man was shot and killed at Drexel Place in Cross Lanes at about 12:30 a.m. Monday, deputies say.
He was shot in Building 7 by a man he knew, according to Sgt. Brian Humphreys of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office. The victim died at the scene.
Several other people, including a toddler, were inside the apartment. Humphreys said the man killed was not the father of the toddler.
Deputies are still looking for the suspect, who fled immediately. Detectives have been assisting with interviews and collecting evidence.
"The incident was not random, but no theories on motive are expected to be released today beyond that," Humphreys wrote in a news release.
Humphreys said the victim's name will be released after family is notified of his death. He said late Monday afternoon that the family still had not been notified and declined to answer additional questions until the victim's name is released.
