Police were searching Monday evening for a man who robbed a bar earlier that day on MacCorkle Avenue
A man went inside Shirley's Bar, located at 23 MacCorkle Ave., handed the clerk a bag and "demanded that she put all the money in the bag," according to a news release from the St. Albans Police Department. It wasn't clear what time the robbery occurred, but it was before 3 p.m. Monday.
The man also told the clerk he had a gun and pepper spray and then showed the clerk the pepper spray, the release states. He got away with an undisclosed amount of money, police wrote.
The suspect, who police described as a black man, who was wearing a toboggan, blue jeans and a dark coat and sunglasses, fled west on MacCorkle Avenue in a newer model maroon SUV. The release states the vehicle appeared to be a Lincoln MKX.
There were no suspects Monday night. Sgt. M.K. Elkins, who is investigating the incident, asks that anyone with information call the St. Albans police at 304-727-2251.
