Two people were killed in separate fires on Christmas Eve morning in Summers County and Monongalia County.

A woman was killed in the Summers County fire, which was reported around 5 a.m. on Dunns Road, near the Raleigh County line, a Summers County 911 dispatcher said.

A man was also injured in the fire, according to the state fire marshal's office. Neither victim was immediately identified.

Volunteer firefighters from the Summers County and Jumping Branch departments responded to the fire, the dispatcher said. They found the house fully engulfed in flames.

The cause of the fire was unknown as of Saturday afternoon, and investigators from the fire marshal's office didn't know if the home had smoke detectors.

A 90-year-old man was killed in the Monongalia County fire, which investigators responded to around 9:30 a.m., according to the state fire marshal's office. It was probably an electrical fire, the fire marshal said, and although smoke detectors were in the home, they may not have been working.
