PARKERSBURG - A Wood County sheriff's deputy charged with drunken driving earlier this year has been granted disability and has retired from the department.
The News and Sentinel of Parkersburg reported that Cory Six had checked himself into a treatment program in California following his March arrest.
Six was granted retirement benefits in a ruling from the Consolidated Retirement Board on Wednesday and officially retired Friday.
Wood County Sheriff Ken Merritt, whose term expires at the end of the year, called Six "a good person," but said breaking the law meant he would have to leave the department.
DUI and reckless driving charges against Six were dropped in September when a special prosecutor found there was not enough evidence to prove him guilty.
