Police have released more information in the wreck that killed a 10-year-old girl in Clay County Tuesday afternoon.

The single-car wreck occurred on W.Va. 16 near the Bickmore township at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, an EMT has previously said.

Deputy Tyler Caruthers, the lead investigator for the Clay County Sheriff's Office, said this morning that two girl were traveling with their grandmother, who lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle landed on its side and all three people were ejected from the vehicle.

The 10-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene. The grandmother was "seriously wounded," Caruthers said, while the younger sister was responsive and communicating with first responders. Her injuries appeared minor.

Both the grandmother and grandaughter were flown by helicopter to a hospital in Charleston.

Caruthers said he hadn't received word of the two's conditions yet this morning.

An EMT had previously said the girl was 9 years old but Caruthers said Wednesday that she was 10.

Her name has not been released, due to her age.
