Charleston police have arrested the 16-year-old boy who allegedly robbed another teenager and fired a shot to scare him in the area of the service drive by the Lee Street parking garage at the Charleston Town Center on Monday.

The 16-year-old, a Charleston resident, convinced a 15-year-old boy to exit the mall and enter the Lee Street parking garage at about 3:30 p.m., according to Lt. Steve Cooper, Charleston police chief of detectives. The suspect then allegedly fired a handgun once to intimidate and rob the victim.

Cooper said it happened in the area by the mall where trucks can load and unload, the Lee Street service drive. He said the suspect fled when he saw another person in the garage, and the parking garage wasn't busy at the time.

Cooper has said that the two teenagers knew each other.

Cooper said this morning that the 16-year-old had been arrested Tuesday night. He said the teen was charged with wanton endangerment and first degree robbery, and was being held in a juvenile detention facility.

Cooper said he couldn't talk about what led to the incident. He also declined to say where the boy was arrested, saying that could identify the teenager.

Police have not released names because of the ages of the people involved.
