Police shoot, kill man in Morgantown while trying to serve warrants

A man is dead after being shot Thursday night by a Monongalia County sheriff's deputy at a house in Morgantown.

A deputy was attempting to serve search and arrest warrants at 1043 Charles Ave., according to a news release from the Morgantown Police Department, which is leading an investigation into the shooting.

Individuals inside the house tried to keep deputies from going inside, the release states. One individual had guns, according to police.

"Deputies confronted an individual armed with a shotgun who was subsequently shot," the release states. "The individual was subsequently found to have a handgun on his person as well."

He was taken to WVU Ruby Memorial Hospital, where he died, according to police.
