A St. Albans man fled police with his infant daughter inside the car, and jumped from the moving vehicle while leaving her and another passenger inside, police say.

David A. Eskew, 36, refused to stop his black Chevrolet Camaro when police attempted to stop him for an equipment violation in the area of U.S. 60 and 3rd Street in St. Albans at about 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, according to a release from St. Albans police.

He fled through parking lots to an alley parallel to U.S. 60, back on to U.S. 60, then to Oliver Street, West Main Street, Coal River Road and High Street, the release states. He drove at high speeds and ignored traffic control devices.

When Eskew hit a dead end, he jumped from the car while it continued to roll forward, leaving his 2-month-old daughter and another person, who was able to get the car stopped, inside. Police caught him after a short foot chase.

Eskew was charged with child neglect creating risk of injury and fleeing in a vehicle. Bail was set at $50,000.
