Kanawha County Sheriff's Office has released the name of the man who died Wednesday night in a crash on Interstate 77 in the Sissonville area.
Cody Lynch, 20, of Charleston, was killed after the driver of a tractor-trailer crossed the median and struck the driver's side of Lynch's vehicle.
The crash was reported at mile marker 111 at about 8:45 p.m.
The tractor-trailer, hauling fruit, was traveling north when it exited the road to the left, crossed the grassy median, and entered the southbound lanes, striking the 2014 Toyota Corolla Lynch was driving, according to a statement from the sheriff's office. The driver told deputies his windshield was foggy and he was trying to adjust the fog controls when he left the road.
Lynch's car was heavily damaged. Lynch was pronounced dead at the scene, and his passenger was taken to Charleston Area Medical Center's General Division in serious condition.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to the same hospital for a head injury.
The southbound lanes of Interstate 77 were closed until 3:15 a.m. when one lane reopened. Both lanes were cleared by 4 a.m.
The sheriff's office still is reconstructing the crash. Decisions about possible citations or charges will be made after that.
