A man was taken to the hospital after an accidental shooting at a St. Albans pawn shop distribution center this morning, according to the owner of the building.
Two people were cleaning a rifle at the K.V. pawn shop distribution center in the old Parkway Supermarket building at 2515 MacCorkle Ave. when the weapon discharged and the bullet struck a man down the table working, according to the building's owner, Lee Lewis.
He said the bullet went through the man's hand into his face, knocking out several of his teeth. The man was in surgery at a local hospital this morning. Lewis said he didn't think the wounds were life-threatening.
Lewis questioned why men who regularly handle guns didn't take proper safety precautions.
"He was lucky it didn't kill him," he said.
Lewis said he believes the people involved were employees but did not know their names.
The St. Albans Police Department is investigating.
