FORT GAY, W.Va. (AP) - The State Fire Marshal's Office has ruled a fire that damaged a former school in Fort Gay as arson.
The Fort Gay Fire Department tells multiple media outlets that the fire occurred on Saturday at a building that formerly was Fort Gay High School and then Fort Gay Middle School.
The fire department says it took a couple hours to get the fire under control. Officials say the fire began on the building's first floor and then spread to the second floor.
Wayne County Superintendent Sandra Pertee says the building was in the process of being taken over by local developers to turn into public housing for senior citizens.
Officials say no injuries were reported.
The investigation is ongoing.
